Hi. great site!

I read in harry tomlinson's book that you should repot mapels in early spring and before the buds swell. I think because we had a few warm days my tree has started budding and ive not repotted it out of its plastic nurery pot yet. Is it too late or can i get away with it? i'd hate to wait another year!!

My wife repotted one last week which also had little shoots all over it. so far so good. She went light on the root pruning though. Was a Japanese mapel.

I repotted a Trident Maple yesterday into a homemade pond basket. The buds are only just starting to swell. We have had quite a cold winter (for up here) and also a bit longer then usual so i am not expecting any problems with repotting the tree.

Sorry for not replying sooner. Just got in from Japan this morning. Harry is right. If the buds are not open you can still get away buy not root prunning too heavily.

Cheers

Most of the time you can get away by light root prunning and good after care like keeping it away from wind and watering with "superthrive"
Happy bonsaing
